Privacy Policy

1. The short version

We collect the minimum information needed to set up your account, confirm students' school email, facilitate donations, and let students and donors communicate. We don't sell your data. We don't use it to advertise to you. If you want your account deleted, email us and we'll do it.

2. What we collect

  • Account information: name, email, password (hashed), role (student, donor, or admin).
  • Profile information: photo, bio, school, goals, financial needs, social and payment handles you choose to share.
  • Destination & screenshots: the single destination a student lists (a username or a payment link) so supporters can send them funds, and the confirmation screenshots supporters upload. All funds are sent and received through outside services, not through Destined for Success. The platform never holds or moves money, never sees or stores card or bank numbers, and never processes a payment. We only keep a record, such as a screenshot or a link when one is available, to confirm the amount and keep track of the support given.
  • Communications: messages and meeting metadata exchanged on the platform.
  • Usage data: standard server logs, error telemetry (via Sentry), and analytics.

3. How we use it

  • To review and approve student profiles before they go live to donors.
  • To facilitate donations, mentorship sessions, and messaging.
  • To send transactional emails (account activity, gift confirmations, meeting reminders).
  • To improve the product and investigate abuse.

4. Who we share it with

We share data with the service providers we need to run the platform — currently Clerk (authentication), Cloudinary (image hosting), Pusher (real-time messaging), Sentry (error monitoring), Resend (email), Calendly (optional meeting scheduling), and PostHog (privacy-conscious product analytics — no session recording, and we do not identify students). We do not use a payment processor, because the platform never handles payments.

We will only share information with law enforcement when legally compelled to do so. We will never sell your information.

5. Children and student safety

If you are a student under 13, you must have a parent or guardian register on your behalf. We review every student profile before it becomes visible to donors. Inappropriate contact between donors and students is grounds for immediate account removal — please use the report tool if you encounter it.

6. Your rights

  • Request a copy of the data we hold about you.
  • Request corrections to inaccurate information.
  • Request deletion of your account and associated data.
  • Opt out of non-transactional communications at any time.

To exercise any of these, email privacy@destinedforsuccess.org.

7. Cookies

We use a small number of cookies for authentication and basic analytics. We do not use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.

8. Updates

When we make material changes to this policy, we'll post a notice on the site and update the "Last updated" date above.
